Pops last night was amazing. Ohhh my gosh I am going to miss Alex Sutton so much, he is a wonderful man and a wonderful conductor and helped make the entire experience so much fun. I love sitting as principal trumpet, too. It just feels cooler than sitting in the middle somewhere. How selfish, really. I can't wait until it starts up again next fall.

Speaking of Pops, here are some selections from this Falls concert. I'm one of three trumpets in these.

Disney's Tarzan Suite

Pictures at an Exhibition - The Hut on Hen's Legs and the Great Gate of Kiev. (personal favorite.)

King of the Forest

The Eternal Vow from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

I don't write in this much any more.

I haven't been sleeping very well lately. Not at any reasonable times anyway, hence why this is written at 6 AM.

So, for the majority of you who hadn't heard, my father was in an accident two weeks ago. He broke several ribs, punctured a lung and had severe internal damage. I took last week off of school to be at home and in the hospital with my mother.

This is odd for me as I've never really experienced the potential death of someone close to me. Well, my grandfather died when I was young but I can hardly remember it. For the most part, my family has been incredibly healthy, at least in the sense of staying out of the hospital, for the majority of my lifetime. This came as somewhat of a shock.

I sometimes really dislike being at home. Not in the sense that it no longer feels like "home" to me, I can't say that I've ever had a special feeling of "home." Where I've lived at the time seems perfectly fine. What feels different is that everyone I feel should be there no longer is. Ben, Schlicker, Kristen, Miranda, Erin, etc. Alex and Katie are still around but are busy with MSU stuff, of course. I'm certainly just as busy when I'm at school. Jake is often at work or in class. I'm not really very close with anyone still in high school, either.

I do enjoy seeing my dog, though. As much of a hassle as she can be, it's nice to always have someone around. I never realized how much I cared for her until I left. Privacy is sometimes nice too, that's not something you get often here. It's still a little unnerving to be showering at the same time someone in the same room is using the bathroom, or maybe that's just me. Reliable hot water in the shower, now thats another thing I've missed. This sort of turned into a weird rant.

Still, after a rather harrowing week my dad is off the respirator and was moved out of intensive care yesterday. Good things happen.

And so, I can return to my normal life. Like, ohgodineedtoschedulefornextsemester. Need to take French and the next Philosophy class in my schedule. Need to take musicology. Probably should take theory. Need to re-sign up for studio and register for that. Need to take marching band. That's too many needs to takes or something. Double majoring is hard. I am reasonably sure I will never actually graduate from college.

Michigan Pops and campus band concert are both this sunday. Very excited, especially for Pops. It'll be trying to play for such a long time straight with both dress rehearsals then both concerts, but I'm sure I'll be fine with it. As hard as it can be sometimes, I do love Pops. The idea that over 1,700 people actually paid to come see me play is almost shocking. And if you happen to have a commute to Ann Arbor this sunday at 7, I have 2 free tickets considering well, my parents aren't coming any more.

I feel as though I should continue in some sort of free-form stream of consciousness diatribe here but I feel it's unnecessary. I don't really plan on writing here more frequently, I'm just tired.
